posted 04/15/2013 Fairfax County Flag Association mourns the loss of Sergio Paul Visaggio, Assistant Coach of the 2012 Spring Champions, Vienna Bulldogs, pictured below on the right.
Sergio, 48, passed away suddenly at his home in Vienna, Virginia on April 7, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Marcia Visaggio and their three sons, John, Christopher, and Nicholas. Sergio, better known as "Coach Serge" to his 2012 Vienna Bulldogs, helped lead his team to Super Bowl victory in the 5-8 year old age group last spring. His son, Nicholas, was also on the team. Coach Serge was known for his radiant smile and great enthusiasm, and he always had a kind word of support for the children he coached on his team.
Always a very humble, good-hearted and generous man, Coach Serge volunteered countless hours for OAR (Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources), Habitat for Humanity, Organization for Autism Research, ESL, CCD and various other organizations. In addition to Flag Football, he coached many of his sons' other sports teams and was sure to be found helping or organizing fun, family activities that his neighbors in Wayside could enjoy. Sergio Paul Visaggio was a strong, loving human being and family man... and "to love is to receive a glimpse of Heaven." He is pictured below in blue, celebrating the Bulldogs' Superbowl victory. Below, he is congratulating one of his team kids on a well-run play.
